When a laptop does not power on, or powers on with a black screen, most service centres quote a new motherboard — frequently more than the laptop is worth. In reality the fault is usually a single failed part: a shorted MOSFET or capacitor, a bad power IC, a corroded trace after a spill, a corrupted BIOS, or cracked solder under the chipset/GPU. We find that part under the microscope and replace it.
